So What's All This About Name Your Own Price Plane Tickets?

We’ve all seen and heard those commercials on TV and radio spouting forth the glory and amazement that are name your own price plane tickets, but do any of us really know how they work? How can these travel sites (such as Priceline and Hotwire) allow travelers to name their own price on a plane ticket without going bankrupt? It just doesn’t seem possible, or at least legit.

Name Your Own Price Plane Tickets – Legit, with Exceptions

The act of naming your own price for plane tickets is simply another form of bidding on airfare. Instead of the airlines setting the price, you do (the prospective purchaser). Travel sites that offer name your own price plane tickets partner with travel consolidators and the airlines to get deep discounts on travel tickets across the globe. They then put these discounted tickets up for auction, allowing the consumer to bid on the plane ticket and set his/her own price.

Of course, this form of ticket purchasing isn’t as clear-cut as it may seem. Even though you can name your own price, it doesn’t mean you actually get the ticket at that price. Since “naming” actually means “bidding”, someone else can “name” a different price (a.k.a. bid a higher amount) and get the plane ticket out from under you. Remember, “Name your own price for plane tickets” is just a fancy way of saying “Bid on airfare”.

Name Your Own Price Plane Tickets – Bidding with a Blind Fold On

The big catch with naming your own price on plane tickets is that in many cases you’re bidding without knowing the exact airline or flight times. You know the day of the flight before you bid, but you won’t know what airline you’ll be flying or the flight times until AFTER you’ve won the auction. And once you’ve won the auction (by naming your own price on your ticket), you’re locked in – you can’t back out if you don’t like your departure time (i.e. 3 a.m.). So basically, when you’re naming your own price on a plane ticket, you’re taking a gamble on when you’re leaving, how many layovers you’ll have (many “name your own price” travel sites only offer flights that have multiple layovers), and what airline you’ll be flying.

The Key to Name Your Own Price Plane Tickets- Be Flexible

The key to saving money and your sanity with name your own price plane tickets is to be as flexible as possible. You can find great deals on flights with “name your own price” travel auction sites. You just have to be willing and ready to depart and arrive at weird hours and endure a few layovers. If you’re a flexible traveler and don’t care what airline you fly, bidding on airfare and naming your own price on plane tickets is your best bet for saving on your flight.

you just need to search as many sites as possible. for flights, there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely give you the best prices available. just go here: http://cheapest-travel-ever.info/xhpp and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it's very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online… otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

You could try hitchhiking, but I wouldn't recommend it!
With the price of gas these days, you should be thankful for a $69 fare. You wont get any better Im sorry to say. Probably though, if you try to find that fare again, you wont be able to. Ever hear of the "You snooze, you loose" policy?

Good luck though.

Only an employee can give you a buddy pass. Each employee is issued 8 a year. They arent free and most times you can buy a ticket for just a little bit more and be confirmed. Buddy Passes are stand-by only and you can get bumped for days. Especially with summer travel, it is sometimes difficult to travel on them and not recommended especially for families with small children. If someone tries to sell you one, that is illegal. You are only supposed to pay the fare for the buddy pass and the employee can be fired if caught selling a buddy pass to anyone.

I never would give mine to a family with children during the summer. Too many times they would be stuck for hours or even days somewhere and I would get an earfull. If you do know an employee who can give you one, they have to make the arrangements and it can only be paid online by credit card. There is a dress code and it is strictly enforced. Some people do not understand the rules and employee's have lost their priveledges as well as their jobs because buddy pass riders lost their temper when they were not cleared on a flight.

There is much more to know about flying non-rev, but find an employee first. They need to cover all the rules with you, but honestly, its really not worth it during the summer time or traveling with a child. You can be seperated and on different flights and it can get ugly.

I've always used Amtrak.com, they have last minute deals that can't be beat. Usually cheaper than any of the online travel sites like orbitz.com.
I had no problems getting my tickets.

Yes, you can buy a ticket to be used for a flight in a different country. I regularly buy tickets to fly to another country from the U.S., either online or through a travel agent, and before I leave the U.S. I purchase tickets for a separate round-trip flight in that other country. No restrictions, as long as you're using legal airline tickets. I always use e-tickets so everything is in the computer system.

There is no particular day in the week to get a reasonable flight to the USVI.

As soon as I know I will be traveling to the islands, I start checking websites. It really depends where you live too.I live in New York and I booked my tickets in November for $300 RT for May travel. I hit a sale on American.

Travel mid-week sometimes will be cheaper, winter rates are usually higher because of demand. After spring break, you will see spring sales, and of couse you will see sales for summer travel August, Sept and Oct because it's hurricane season.

Try this link every day.
http://www.bookingbuddy.com
It searches multiple sites at the same time. If you find a good rate, check the airline website for same flight, sometimes it's cheaper.

You can sign up for this site.

Good Luck and enjoy the USVI)

Who knew our Zoo staff had such talent!

Just like what xanaduloot said, make sure that the person you are buying tickets for is someone you really know personally as opposed to someone you met online only and have know only through the internet for a long time.

But to address you question, the only two airlines presently that fly between Nigeria and the U.S. are Delta (through their hub in Atlanta GA) and North American Airlines (through either Baltimore/Washington Airport, MD or JFK Airport, NY).

I must warn you that tickets can cost upwards of $4000 round trip and that the tickets will need to be paid in full before confirmation and tickets are issued.

Possible air routings to Austin may include:

- Delta from LOS->ATL->AUS
- North American from LOS->BWI and Southwest from BWI->AUS
- North American from LOS->JFK and American from JFK->DFW->AUS
